3/23/2005 - Building the Tag

Past week we finished building one access point using a key pad, LCD, PIC microcontroller and an RF transceiver. As the first stage testing we tested the PIC’s ability to communicate with the LCD and Key pad through RS 232. We had to change some of the capacitors in the circuit since it was producing a high noise at the output. But after these small alterations the circuit started communicating with the computer via serial port. As the next step we would build a tag and make it communicate with the access point and test the RSSI value.

Omar Elsahy:
• Helped building the prototype
• Purchased necessary parts of the access point
• Worked on the validation review

Fernando Souto:
• Built the prototype
• Altered the schematics
• Looked into validation review
• Tested the circuit for communication
• Worked on the RS232 C++ code

Aldwin Saugere:
• Worked on serial port communication between the PC and the Access Points
• Implemented WRNS computation engine
• Modified the Graphical User Interface to read the values coming from the Access Points

Ajit Gaddam:
• Worked on the software implementation

Anand Mehta:
• Studied 2-wire RS232 protocol interface through C::COM and PIC programming
• Established necessary pin connections, signal levels and restrictions on RF transceiver module.
• Worked on the PIC communication code
• Involved in testing the circuit

Milinda Wathugala:
• Built the prototype
• Helped the test process

Thanujan Ratnarajah:
• Built the prototype
• Tested the circuit of a communication link
• Worked on location algorithm.
• Prepared the validation review
